1833 BROTHERS & SISTERS
Day in the life of an author
Waking up late. I have to be honest, I enjoy this. Every Monday, I wake up late. It is my small indulgence, and I love it. Now, waking up late for me is 9 am. I take my time with my oatmeal cereal and green tea, spending time with the dog outside on my deck, taking in whatever the morning has to offer. Sunshine, rain, cold, heat, and sometimes even snow.
After my sweet indulgence, it’s work time.
My writing days are always Mondays and sometimes Tuesdays too. I enjoy structure and routine. It seems to work best for me.
But now, on to the writing. For the people who fantasize about writing constantly and passionately, I hate to burst your bubble. The work of an author is only 50% writing. Like any job, there are many more duties than just writing that first draft.
Editing, story editing, copyediting, more editing, book formatting, cover design, copyright, library book deposit, updating website, setting up promotions, book tours, interviews, networking, appearing on podcasts, YouTube book trailers, voice acting, and book signings. You get the drift, lol. There are endless, absolutely endless, things to get done before and after a book releases. It takes up so much energy and time that it forms a concrete part of any writing career. I have finally accepted that all this is not humanly possible LOL.
I take it one day at a time and have learned to enjoy the journey rather than race to the finish line. Because I know that one day, that book will be released and will be read by many different readers. Some will love it, some will not, but for a few select people, it will touch them and remain with them for a long time. A phrase, a character, a sentiment, or even a lesson learned. Whatever it is, I will have been successful in my job as a writer.
I hope you enjoy 1833 Brothers & Sisters!
